Dr. Anuj James

Dr. Anuj James is a distinguished dental professional whose career is defined by clinical excellence, compassionate care, and an unwavering commitment to patient well-being. Known for his meticulous approach and calm, reassuring presence, he has earned the trust of patients, colleagues, and the broader dental community. Dr. James believes deeply that oral health is integral to overall wellness, and he strives to create an environment where every patient feels informed, supported, and genuinely cared for.

A partner and general dentist at Village Family Dental, Dr. James was raised in Lumberton, North Carolina, and graduated from Lumberton High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by two years of research with the UNC Dental Research Center and the Unilever Corporation in Port Sunlight, England. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 2002 and began his career with Village Family Dental shortly thereafter.

Dr. James’s training emphasized comprehensive, patient-centered dentistry, including preventive care, restorative and cosmetic treatment, and patient education. He is widely recognized for his precision, his thoughtful communication style, and his ability to translate complex clinical concepts into clear, accessible guidance.

Throughout his career, Dr. James has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to lifelong learning. He regularly pursues advanced coursework and training to remain at the forefront of modern dental techniques and technology. His dedication ensures that his patients benefit from the latest innovations in diagnosis, treatment planning, and minimally invasive care.

His professional experience includes advanced clinical training at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden; the Buncombe County Health Center in Asheville, North Carolina; and the Upper Cardoza Clinic in Washington, D.C. Dr. James has authored multiple scholarly articles, contributed to two textbooks, and presented research at national and international dental conferences. His areas of special interest include aesthetic dentistry, root canal therapy, and sedation dentistry.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. James is known for his collaborative spirit and his contributions to team-based practice environments. He values strong communication, ethical leadership, and a culture of respect—qualities that have made him a trusted and influential member of every clinical team he has served.

Dr. James is an active member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the Fayetteville Dental Society. Deeply committed to service, he provides pro-bono care through the Care Clinic in Fayetteville and has participated in mission trips to Nicaragua, offering essential dental treatment to underserved communities.

He resides in Fayetteville with his wife and their three children. Dr. James is fluent in Malayalam, the official language of Kerala in Southern India. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys flying model airplanes, playing racquetball, and spending meaningful time with his family.
